Samburu National Reserve lies in northern Kenya along the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River, in a dry and rugged region that feels dramatically different from Kenya’s southern parks. It’s a less crowded, more remote safari destination with striking landscapes of acacia, riverine forest, and desert scrub.
What makes Samburu unique is its concentration of rare, dry-adapted animals—the so-called “Samburu Special Five.” The local Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai, add rich cultural depth to a visit.
