Eldoret is a major town in western Kenya, located in Uasin Gishu County, on the scenic highlands of the Rift Valley. It’s one of the fastest-growing towns in Kenya and serves as a hub for agriculture, education, and athletics. Eldoret sits at about 2,100 meters (6,900 feet) above sea level, giving it a cool, temperate climate year-round. It is internationally famous as the home of Kenya's elite long-distance runners, many of whom train in the high-altitude areas around the town. Eldoret has a mix of urban amenities and rural charm, surrounded by rolling hills, forests, and expansive farmlands.
