Tsavo East National Park is one of Kenya’s largest and oldest parks, covering over 13,700 km². It's part of the vast Tsavo Conservation Area, together with Tsavo West. Located halfway between Nairobi and Mombasa, it’s known for its open savannahs, dramatic red soil, and herds of dust-red elephants that love to wallow in the park’s rich, iron-oxide earth. Compared to its sister park (Tsavo West), Tsavo East is flatter, drier, and more open, making it excellent for game viewing—especially for spotting big herds of elephants and predators like lions.
